Parent Information

All parents of band and guard students are automatically members of the Duncan U. Fletcher High School Band Boosters. The only requirement that we ask is that one parent of each student sign up for many volunteer shifts at any of our volunteer opportunities available. We would also appreciate any other volunteer support that you can give – we need everyone’s help!

The Duncan U Fletcher High School Band Booster Association (20-5185351) provides the funding necessary to pay for new instruments, uniforms, clinician fees, music, our marching drill, travel costs and many other valuable services not covered by the annual fees. The Band Boosters also will provide individual fund-raising opportunities to help students pay for their annual band fee, fall guard fee or Jazz Band fee

Communication

Band Parent Meetings: Band parent meetings are held in the band room on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm


Charms: The band uses Charms Office Assistant to communicate information and coordinate events and activities. This is where you can find important documents like registration forms, the band handbook, and parent meeting minutes. This is also where you’ll order certain equipment/uniform items and where you’ll sign up to volunteer and chaperone (see below)

Fletcher High School Band Calendar of Events

The first time you log into Charms you will be asked to enter the "School Code," it is "FletcherHSBand" and the "Student Area Password," It is the first 3 letters of your student's last name then the first 3 letters of their first name. Example JOHN SMITH ID would be SMIJOH (ALL CAPS). Once you are in you need to CHANGE THE PASSWORD at that time. 

FHS Band Parents Facebook Group: Request to join the FHS Band Parents Facebook group here. This is a group where parents can get information quickly and ask questions if needed. 

The students have their own Facebook groups and should ask their section leader to be added to the correct group(s).

Google Calendar: The band calendar is on Charms. You can also follow the band’s Google Calendar here. 


Chaperones/Volunteers: The band needs parents to chaperone for all football games, home and away, as well as FBA and FBMC events. Chaperones for away games and performances need to be aware that they must be available to ride the bus with the students to and from the event. Siblings are not allowed. The band also needs two parents to volunteer to pull the band trailers to transport the instruments and equipment to each of these events.

All chaperones and volunteers must go to the Duval County website and enroll as a volunteer in order to be an approved chaperone. They must complete a School Volunteer Form and be approved prior to being allowed to volunteer with the band

The Volunteer Coordinator posts opportunities in the Volunteer section of Charms. You will sign up there to chaperone or pull the trailer. We request that all chaperones wear the show shirt or a purple shirt when accompanying the band! For chaperone and/or volunteer questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

Concession Stands: The Band Boosters run the concession stands on both the home and visitor side at all home football games and hosted competitions. As a chaperone or concession volunteer, you pay no admission to the game. We need volunteers to set up, cook food, sell food, and clean up for the concession stand for each home game and for competitions.

Marching Uniforms: All Marching Uniforms will be checked in and out of the band room for the marching season. Students will be fitted with their uniform at summer band camp. At no time should bibbers (pants) or Jacket be taken home. We will launder all pants before every game and jackets will be on a dry cleaning schedule.

Shakos (hats), Dinkles (shoes), and gloves should be left to air out between use at home. We recommend putting newspaper inside of the shoe to absorb odor and moisture.

All students are required to wear an under-uniform. Report to band room on time for roll call, wearing your official band T-shirt (tucked in), solid black shorts, black shoes and black socks. Check in with your Captain. Show that you have all under-uniform parts, shoes and socks on as soon as you arrive.

Concert Attire: Ladies will be fitted for Concert Dress later in the season. Concert dress fees will be due for new members only, or if a student has changed sizes. Ladies will also need flat, black dress shoes. Gentlemen are required to rent or purchase their own tuxedo.
